Crawling and Changing

With the finishing of this school year I didn't have the time to update this blog but there is some exciting things happening around here. John Brody is now crawling! He figured it out after a month of getting into position but then sitting back down. One afternoon after school, May 20th to be exact, during our usual playtime John Brody crept over to get closer to me on the floor. Within a week he was crawling faster and could disappear in the blink of an eye! There are moments where if you're not watching him now he'll be playing in a completely different room of the house than where he started. He can also clear a table of all it's contents in a few seconds flat. At this point today he's still working on his upper body strength in order to pull up to stand next to things. He tries but he just can't do it yet. John Brody likes to try and keep up with Tripp. He'll follow his big brother around the house and try to play with him. Tripp likes playing with him some of the time but usually John Brody "messes up things" and Tripp will try and take his dinosaurs elsewhere. John Brody has also figured out how to sit back up from a lying down position. We thought he'd never figure that one out. He'd fall backwards and then just get so mad lying flat on his back until he finally figured out that he had to use his arms to help sit back up. In the last week or so John Brody has started to sleep on his belly or side instead of his back. He also is sleeping through the night again. He stopped doing that for a couple of months. He was waking up and drinking a bottle with formula and oatmeal about 2 am. Now we have learned to feed him a jar or two of baby food before his bedtime (8 ounce formula with oatmeal) bottle. In the last week or two John Brody will sleep from about 8pm to 7am. It is WONDERFUL! Speaking of food at 10 months old we started giving him some "table" food. We started out with banana, scrambled eggs, and other soft and chewable foods. Now when we eat supper John Brody will have a little of what we're eating and some baby food since not all of what we eat is safe for him. We were having chicken the other day for supper and he ate ALL the chicken off of a thigh! Will would tear and cut off some, John Brody ate that and would want more until all of it was gone! We could hardly believe it! Will calls John Brody the eating machine. The "eating machine" now has all four top teeth. One of the two front teeth was very stubborn and took it's sweet time coming in. We can see nap time changing because his morning nap is short but for now still needed and if there's no morning nap then the afternoon nap will be longer. John Brody is trying to "talk" more. He says more sounds, puts them together, and talks a lot. We still can't understand his words but it's fun to listen. Sometimes I think I understand him because the other day Will was cutting grass and Tripp was riding with him. I was holding John Brody in my lap as I sat in a chair on the back porch so we could watch. John Brody extended his arm out, pointing to Tripp, and said "ip". He'll also say "dada", "mama", the f, b, g, m, and other letter sounds, a combo of letter sounds, and sometimes "go". He claps his hands when I say "Good job." or "Yay!" This is a rambling post but it's the best I can do with a crawler at my feet wanting to see what I'm doing and "play" on the computer. I hope to post more but shorter posts since it's summer break.
