Blood

Will and I took Tripp to the pediatrician this morning. We had to go for a follow up appointment due to the doctor finding "something" when looking at the results of Tripp's PKU test done while we were in the hospital. Tripp had to have his heel pricked for a hemoglobin test to be done. Dr. Miller was trying to find out if Tripp is anemic because it could be a serious health issue if combined with the blood condition he has. The "blood problem" is microcytosis (I think I spelled it correctly). Tripp's red blood cells are smaller than the average persons. He will have this condition for life. Dr. Miller wants us to go get more blood work done as an out patient at Newton Medical to check for other things and make sure all is well with Tripp's blood. The hemoglobin test that the nurses did in the office came back as a 16.9 which Dr. Miller said was good and that we shouldn't worry about any complications with Tripp. She did say this was a genetic condition and the only thing that would be a problem is if Tripp has children with another person with this same blood condition. Their child would have serious health issues with their blood. Tripp is just a "carrier" as she said so he should be a healthy boy. The pediatrician said that this blood condition is usually in people of Asian, Greek, or Italian descent. I don't know that Will or I are of any decent mentioned but whatever. My family and our blood! Tripp is taking after my side of the family with all the blood problems. Momma and Tripp can both go have their blood taken at the same place. She seems to always be there to get her blood checked! Those nurses and techs in the outpatient services already know Momma and will be getting to know us too it seems. We've already been there once since Tripp was born and now we have to go again and he's only a month old!

To end on a fun note...
We are going to go visit Santa Claus tomorrow. Hopefully we will get a sweet picture...more than likely Tripp will be sleeping. I'll post a picture if we get a good one.
