playing outside
When we go out to play Tripp likes to get the practice golf balls from Will's golf stuff in the garage and thow them from the top of our driveway. He throws one ball at a time so he can watch it bounce down the driveway until Annie blocks it like a goalie or catches it in her mouth. He'll do that until all the balls are in the grass on the other side of the driveway. He gets the empty box and walks it to where Annie has collected the balls. (A great retriever as long as you don't expect her to bring them back to you!) We pick them up and put them back in the box to do it all over again.
playing with his next door neighbor and best friend, Lane
If Tripp sees Lane out in his yard playing then he'll walk on over to see Lane reguardless of me saying, "Tripp come back." Usually it's ok for them to play but there are some rare times when it's say time to go in for a bath. Just the other day we had been in the back yard for a while when Lane came out to play in his back yard. Immediately Tripp starts his trek through the grass to see Lane. I was walking behind him and told him that we can't play but he keeps walking. Once we got there I let Tripp say hello and see his best friend for a few minutes. Then I took Tripp by the hand and told him we have to go. Well, he didn't like that at all! We took several steps but then he stoped and tried to go back. So, I had to pick him up and start carrying him across the yard. You know the water works began and Tripp was SO upset!!! He cried big crocodile tears until we were back in the house and stripping his clothes off in order to take a bath.
Tripp and Lane can really chat it up toddler style. Joanie, that's Lane's mom, and I have no idea what they are saying but they seem to understand each other! It's so cute to watch them together. Lane will show Tripp things like birds in the sky, bugs on the ground, and how to ride his toy ATV. They will play outside no matter how muddy the yard may be! I'm so glad Tripp has a friend that is so close in distance as well as age. Lane is only 8 months older. That developmental gap is getting narrower as the months pass. The pictures below are from March 13th after a few rainy days. Tripp and Lane playing in the Lackey's front yard.
pushing things from furniture to toys
Tripp still loves to push his toy Lightin' McQueen car. The one you're supposed to ride, not just push. He'll sit on it but doesn't quite get the whole move your feet and hold on the the wheel so you can ride part. But he loves to push our bar stools. Don't know why but it might be so he can play under the bar top with his cars. There is one car he'll play with for hours! You guessed it...one that you push without letting go a few times and it'll take off across the floor. That was a great Wal-mart purchase!
reading books
Tripp still LOVES to read books. I bet he brings 25 books to me or Will for us to read every day. A couple of his new favorites are Colors and Baby's First 100 Words. Colors is a book that has real world pictures on each spread of pages highlighting a different color. Tripp's favorite pages from Colors are black because of the black "kitty" cat, red because of the strawberry, and orange because of the pumpkin. We will be reading along and come to the black page. Tripp sees the black cat and says, "kitty."Baby's First 100 Words is a book with 100 pictures with labels as to what each item is. His favorite pages of this book are the ones with the ball (that he'll point to and say, "ball") and duck because he likes to tell you "duck."
One last sweet note...
When Tripp picks up a stuffed animal to carry around, like "Grizzly Bear" or "Puppy" or his "Skip It" dog he sleeps with, he makes this high pitched squeal and hugs the animal real tight so show it love. That melts my heart.
Sorry to have so much in one post but between work, home life, being sick, exercising, and taking a few minutes to relax it's hard to make time to blog.
